“I feel amazing. I had a lot of fun,” said Aydriana Evans, a freshman business administration major. “Honestly, I love fashion, and just helping the thrift store out was amazing.”

Evans took home the victory of the fashion show hosted by the university’s new thrift store, Wildcat Thrifts, in the Yurtchuk Social Room on Friday, Nov. 8.

The event consisted of five students competing to create the best outfits in two categories: streetwear and red carpet ready, using clothing donated to the thrift store.

Students showcased shirts, dresses, skirts, dresswear pants, sunglasses, and many more items during the event.

The event was judged by a panel of three students who rated each outfit on multiple different areas and added up the points to get the final scores.

“I think they did really good for us to not have that much of an audience; I loved that they still had the commitment and the confidence they showed in each outfit,” said Harlem Geiger, a freshman business administration major and one of the judges.

Evans came in first with a total of 135 points, Emma Robinson in second with 129 points, and Kiyari Bridges in third with 128 points.

During the event, students were able to purchase the items being showcased from the thrift store. At the end of the event, 7 items were purchased for a total of $19.

“I think it was a pretty big success; we only had the details finalized Monday, so with it only being Friday, I’m really happy with the way it turned out,” said Ally Deason, a graduate business administration student and graduate assistant for the business clubs.

Wildcat Thrifts hosted the event as the culmination of their fashion week, where they showed students wearing different outfits made entirely of clothes available for purchase to promote the grand opening on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

“A lot of work has been put in, a lot of hustle and bustle, more than you would think, going into opening a thrift store,” Geiger said. “I’m very excited to see the turnout and the fruit of our labor.”

The store can be found in the Business Building in room 206 and will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On the opening day, students were able to spin a prize wheel at checkout with the chance to win money off their purchases or a free point on their punch cards.

Wildcat Thrifts is offering punch cards with people’s first purchase and will receive another stamp after each purchase. At your fifth purchase, you will receive a free knickknack.

For students who missed out on the event, another chance may be coming.

“After some talking, we might make this a semester type of occurrence, one of many we’re hoping,” Deason said.
