Daemen Basketball Finishing Record Season

By Cadence Russell, Editor-in-Chief

Daemen’s basketball programs have had an unprecedented season. The men’s team, which is currently 24-0 overall, 15-0 ECC, is the last undefeated team across DII, and earned the first-ever No. 1 rank in the program’s history. The women’s team is 14-1 ECC and 18-7 overall, and had an 18-game win streak (disregarding tournaments) until Feb. 22.

“This is a very special group of young men who do a great job of representing Daemen University. This is the hardest working, most unselfish, and most connected team I have ever been around. They truly care about each other and they enjoy each other’s success,” Mike MacDonald, senior associate athletic director and men’s head coach said.

The men’s team has one more ECC game on March 1 at home against Roberts Wesleyan, who the Wildcats beat 98-75 on Jan. 25. The game starts at 4:00 p.m.

The women’s team will also face Roberts Wesleyan on March 1, who they also beat on Jan. 25, 70-46. The game starts at 2:00 p.m.

“This is a special team and we are excited to represent Daemen as we move forward into the postseason,” MacDonald said.

After the games on March 1, both teams move into the post-season with the ECC Championship on March 8-9, hosted at Daemen.
