Winter Joy returns to Daemen: WinterFest Celebration to be held Friday

As the fall semester comes to a close and Buffalo winter rears its icy head, one of Daemen’s highly anticipated annual events is steadily approaching. WinterFest will take place on Dec. 5, starting at 6 p.m. in the Yurtchuk Student Center.

“There really isn’t a schedule of events other than it kicking off with the tree lighting,” Director of Student Activities, Nathan Flintjer, said. “Then we go into the Yurtchuk. It’s kind of a ‘choose your own adventure’ after that. We’ll have food and stuff, a buddy in The Den, cookie decorating in Alumni Lounge, and arts and crafts, live music, photobooths, etc. in The Social Room. Students, faculty, staff and family are welcome to join.”

Student opinion about the event is overall positive; students love free food and free stuff. Winterfest will excitingly provide both.

“I’m very excited for the Build-a-Buddy, I’m going to build myself a Paddington,” Jaden Clarke, sophomore animation major, said. “I’m going to take a photo of myself in front of the tree. It’s gonna be a banger.”

The festive, fully-decorated tree can be found in front of the Yurtchuk Student Center in the Saffron Public Square.

“I think it’s going to be cute, I hope there’s a good turnout,” Anna Silivestro, sophomore physical therapy major, said. “I think it will be better than last year.”

Winterfest isn’t just for students; Winterfest is for anybody who is part of the Daemen community. Alumni and donors are welcomed to the celebration with a donor appreciation ceremony taking place at 5 p.m. This is not only their introduction to campus, but also reinforces their role as an integral part of the Daemen family.

“Join us in beautiful Rosary Hall for our annual alumni and donor gathering, complete with seasonal refreshments, festive cheer, and plenty of Daemen spirit…” said the Daemen University Website. “This special event is our way of saying thank you to our generous donors whose support makes a lasting impact each year. If you haven’t given yet, now’s the perfect time to make your gift and join us!”

With finals around the corner, Winterfest was intended to be a nice break from studying and homework for many students. Students are encouraged to bring some friends, relax and have some end-of-semester fun.

“It’s a great way to mark the end of the Fall semester and help our students destress before heading into finals week,” Flintjer said.
