How Daemen chooses a SpringFest Artist

By Zorian Edwards, Editor-In-Chief

Two polls to determine the headliner for Springfest 2026 were released to the student body on Oct. 22 and Nov. 5, both providing critical feedback as Daemen moves forward with making financial offers to music artists and planning the event.

According to Nathan Flintjer, director of Student Activities, the event is still in the planning stage. Polls to gauge student opinion go out as early as October to allow for more time to finalize offers and coordinate artist availability.

“We’re still in the searching and offering phase,” Flintjer said. “My goal is to always have this done by the end of the semester, but there are many factors when it comes to securing a headliner.”

Once Daemen collects the data of which artists have high favorability among students, Flintjer works alongside a middle man to draft an offer for the music artist. This offer details price and commitments for the event. From here the artist, the middle man and Flintjer negotiate until they come to an agreement.

The Campus Activities Team (CAT) sent out the second poll on Nov. 5, giving students access to an expanded list of potential rap/r&b and pop/indie/alternative artists. Students were then asked to rank their top choices to help guide the selection process.

“The feedback from the students really does help,” Flintjer said. “I’m a terribly old man and I don’t know much about current music, so the survey results really do help steer the Campus Activities Team and myself in the right direction…We know we can never please everyone when it comes time to pick the headliner. We’ve been trying to at least have a different music genre each year to help with this, but nothing is perfect” The official announcement of who the headliner for SpringFest will be is yet to come.
