Campus Community Grows

Daemen University has over 60 student-lead clubs on campus and this number is growing. Here is a list of clubs that have recently joined the campus community:

Film Club

The film club declined to comment.

Graphic Design Club

The graphic design club is focused on helping students use all the resources provided to students in the VPAC (Visual and Performing Arts Center) and expanding the knowledge of design as they grow as a club.

“[Noah Herman and many other graphic design majors] thought this would be a good idea last year because there are so many tools to use in the VPAC, like the laser engraver or the 3D printer, so we wanted to provide chances to use these things outside of the class setting,” President Kyla Murphy, a junior graphic design major said. “We also would love to go on trips to Roycroft and other design museums.”

The club does not have a set date for meetings but one can sign up in the gallery to hear more information.

“I would like students to know you do not have to be a graphic design major to join the club! If it intrigues you, and you want to learn, you are more than welcome,” Murphy said.

If you’re interested in joining, reach out to President Kyla Murphy (kyla.murphy@daemen.edu) or Advisor Noah Herman (nherman@daemen.edu) to learn more.

 Queer Students’ Association (QSA)

The Queer Students’ Association (QSA) is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ students to get support and connect with their peers.

“Last year, I noticed that Daemen did not have a LGBTQ+ organization. After talking to a number of my friends and faculty members, we decided clubs like QSA create an important space for queer students that we want at our institution,” Devon Ruddock, president of QSA, said. “We are open to suggestions for what our community wants to see from us.”

The club hosts weekly office hours within the Yurtchuk MPR (Multipurpose Room) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays.

“We are planning on putting on more movie nights and creating DIY screen printed shirts. Keep an eye out for the event postings soon,” Ruddock said.

If you’re interested in joining, come to office hours or reach out to Ruddock at devon.ruddock@daemen.edu.

Want to Start a Club?

The requirements for starting a club include having a clear and unique mission statement, writing club bylaws and a constitution, having at least six members willing to serve as officers and a staff advisor cleared by the Student Activities Office.

“If a student is interested in starting a new organization, they should reach out to Student Activities (dhannon@daemen.edu) for an initial planning meeting/to formally start the process,” Dominic Hannon, assistant director of student center operations, said.
